Bhubaneswar ( Orissa ) : Various Students’ bodies have strongly opposed the move
of Orissa Board of Secondary Education to hike the examination fee by
nearly 50 per cent for Matriculation Examinations.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad, All-India Students’ Federation,
Students’ Federation of India, All-India Democratic Students’
Organisation and National Students’ Union of India have opposed the
move.
The Matriculation Examination will start in second week of March. “We
opposed the move as it would affect students and parents having poor
back ground,” ABVP State secretary Sanjay Das said.
The Board has hiked examination fee from Rs 163 to Rs 244 for regular
students and from Rs 220 to Rs 315 for ex-regular students.
“The Board should reconsider its decision, otherwise we would force to
stall Matriculation Examination,” AISF State general secretary Jyoti
Ranjan Mohapatra said.
Joining Mohapatra, SFI State secretary Sarat Das also came down
heavily on Board’s decision and termed it as anti-student move.
AIDSO activists also held a demonstration in front of Board office in
Cuttack over this issue. They demanded waiver for students in flood
and drought affected areas.
Around five lakh students from 7,447 high schools across the state are
set to take the exam this year. The process of filling up of forms is
scheduled to start from January 12.
Board official said that the expenditure incurred for conducting the
HSC exam was more than Rs 15 crore, collection from exam fee was less
than Rs 10 crore.
