Orissa in verge of defeat as batting line-up collapsed against Punjab

Mohali : In a dramatic turn around in the Ranji super league Group B encounter in Mohali, the home team brilliantly recovered from a panic situation and then pushed Orissa at the verge of defeat, as the bowlers strike back to collapse the batting line up on third day.

At the end of second day Orissa was in commanding position with a lead of 116 first innings runs while Punjab were 8 wickets down with 207 runs on the board. In the 3rd day Punjab lost the remaining 2 wickets and ended up with 225 runs.

Orissa started the 2nd innings with 98 runs lead and was expected to give a good target to Punjab, but the batting line up of Orissa got collapsed against the fiery spells of Gaganjit Singh and VRV Singh. Gaganjit bagged the top 3 batsmen of Orissa batting line up while VRV grasped 5 wickets with leaving Orissa no chance to recover.

At one stage 24 for no loss, Orissa lost 7 wickets with in 14 runs margin at the score of 37. B.Pati and SS Das are the only two batsmen getting double figures. Pati scored 15 while Das was the top with 45. Kakkar finished the Orissa innings with taking the last two wickets to restrict the opposition to just 76 runs.

Punjab started the second innings with a175 runs target is 117 for 2 wickets down at the end of the 3rd day and requires just 58 runs in the 4th day to win the match.
