Accord Women Commission with judicial power, CPI demands

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : The women wing of the Orissa CPI has demanded the authorities to empower the state Women Commission with the power of a District Judge to provide justice to women.

In a resolution passed at the CPI State Council Mahila Convention here yesterday, the party said women fail to get justice as the commission has no judicial power.

The party also demanded the government to recruit women as judges in district courts to adjudicate the cases relating to fair sex.

It also urged the authorities to appoint lady police inspectors and sub-inspector in every police station to inquire into the cases involving women.

In an another resolution, the convention demanded the authorities to allot BPL cards, homestead land and Indira Awas houses to the eligible women beneficiaries on priority.

They also demanded the government to accord the status of government employees to the Anganwadi workers and the Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers.

Among other things, the convention wanted the government to provide 50 per cent subsidy to all women Self Help Groups and make arrangement for the marketing of their products.
