Bhubaneswar (Orissa): Officials manning Orissa’s riot hit Southern districts of Kandhamal have lodged FIR against two MP candidates for violating the model code of conduct, sources said.
The Election Commission through the Returning officer has lodged a complaint against the BJP’s MP candidate on charge of delivering inflammatory speech during campaign in the riot hit areas.
Sahu was accused of making speech, which could upset the communal harmony between communities at Raikia. The former additional DGP of Assam Sahu however denied allegation claiming that he was being treated in a partisan manner by the district administration.
However, he has admitted that he was served with a show cause notice, which alleged that Sahu circulated a controversial leaflet among the people, which could generate tension in fragile situation in riot-ravaged district.
The Commission also slapped a case against Samajwadi Party’s MP candidate Nakul Nayak. Nayak had been accused of distributing money among the voters.
A case in this regard was made at Tikabali police station. Nayak allegedly distributed money among the voters at Tikabali relief camp where victims of the recent communal clash were taking shelter.
“I am informed that the Tehsildar of Tikabali had lodged a case against Nayak at Tikabali police station in kandhamal”, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Alka Panda told reporters.
