Bhubaneswar (Orissa) : The leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh in a letter to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked to publish a " White Paper " on the issue of Irregular mining of the precious resources of the State.

Singh in a letter to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed " I am sure by now you must have realise the irreparable loss that has been made by arbitrary and irregular mining the precious resources of the state within a short span of nine years”.

When the Government has made MoU for 49 steel and allied projects to be set up by the Private entrepreneurs and very few have gone to part production, the resource loss is un matching to the actual process. Thus it is very clear that illegal mining operation has resulted with illegal transportation of mining material outside the state causing irreparable damage to the environment of the state and loss of precious reserve.

The central government report for the year 2008-2009 has indicated the highest excavation of mining done in our state compared to other state. If this practice continues without any regulation and control it is apprehended that within 10-15 years mines reserve of our state will be fully depleted, the letter said.

Opposition leader further expressed in his letter that the people of the state want to know what action plan has been taken at the government level for a holistic approach to the issue.

The opposition leader Singh requested the Chief Minister to publish a white paper on the issue, so that the people of the state will have knowledge on what government is doing to protect the interest of the present and future generation of the state.
