Bhubaneswar (Orissa): A moderate of 52.6 percent polling was recorded Thursday in the first phase of elections in Orissa where ballotting was held for 10 Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies.
Polling ended at 4 p.m. However, in naxal affected areas some polling was ended at 3PM.
According to the sources Malkangiri witnesses lowest turnout, while 70% voters have cast their votes in naxal affected Gajpati district.
Barring minor incidents of violence, the polling remained peaceful.
The fate of prominent candidates Chief Minister , Naveen Patnaik, union ministers Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Surya Narayan Patra are in the box.
The polling booths opened at 7 a.m. but the voting process was delayed in several centres due to non-functioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Four helicopters were used to ferry men and material to inaccessible areas.
Counting will be taken up May 16.
