Berhampur: In a bid to empower the rural BPL families, Vikash, the training centre inaugurated by the Chief Minister recently at Hinjili come forward to enable hundreds of jobless youths to earn their livelihood, ultimately preventing the migration of youths in search of employment opportunities in other states.

Government of Orissa has contributed to these Skills for Employment in Apparel Manufacturing (SEAM) program through Employment Mission for providing facilities like training centre, boarding and lodging to candidates with the support from the ministry of rural development, Government of India.

DRDA Ganjam is partnering with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) that would provide technical support. IL & FS is planning to cover 5 lakh candidates in the country in next five years.

Meanwhile under the pilot project, 10 thousand persons have been trained and provided placements across the country.

Dr. NVR Nathan, vice president of the IL & FS informed that BPL youth between the age group of 18 to 30 years would be trained aims to empower unskilled migrating population to enable them in earning the adequate livelihood. Girls, women are being encouraged under this project facilitating the process of making the families sound financially.

The Hinjili centre which is the first of its kind in Orissa would train 64 girls and boys in two sifts in a month and the candidates would be engaged in various apparel industries like the Arvind Mills.

Since the Chief Minister was taking keen interest in such projects, we were going to open another eight to ten such centers in the state and another multi skilled training centre at Sundragarh, informed Dr. Nathan.

The training modules have been developed in consultation with the apparel industry in order to enable them to meet the industry requirement and standard.

The youths would be provided training through the multi media and visual animations for the easy understanding. The centres are being provided with high-speed sewing machines and equipments with the state of art facilities keeping in view the standards of the apparel industry in the country.

Apart from this the candidates would be trained in soft skills like team building, personal etiquettes and behavioural aspects for development of personality. Training assessment would be done through a South African company for industry acceptance and certificates would be provided through a skill grading system.

The training course is of one month's duration at the centre and another two months at any industry with salary for the field exposure. Besides, another six months skill up gradation programme would be undertaken in order to make confidence among the rural youths regarding their future.

Such a systematic programme is being conducted to bridge the paradoxical gap of high unemployment and high demand of skilled manpower in the apparel industry.

As many 31 such training centres have been opened in the country and recently another one at Hinjili in Ganjam district has been added.
